It is what it is, and it is fascinating. You can actually see it from everywhere around, Garbatella, Testaccio, Monte Verde and even Trastevere. I know they do events in there, but it is enjoyable simply from the outside and walking near it. In fact, many people exercise right in front, even in groups, and there's street art and lots of stray cats too. lt's so much part of the landscape of the area.
The Gazometro was built in 1937 to store natural gas. It was decommissioned in the 1960s when alternative methods to store gas were developed.
It remains a prominent part of the Roman skyline, and is called the "industrial Colosseum".
During the event of Videocittà the installations and the events chosen to better exploit the area were really good
Incredible site and interesting walk along abandoned concrete structures of old factories.
What an unusual place! I loved to picnic here as something out of a modernist film, perhaps.
Pretty cool industrial architecture
Once upon a time there was only one Gazometro. Now there are tree. The district around Via del Commercio, Via del Porto Fluviale and Via Ostiense was famous for its pubs and discobars. Now it hosts Artists and Arts exhibitions. A good project to revalue the quarter and make it a new center for culture and arts.
The quintessential backdrop of a certain kind of Roman movie. It's not much to see up close, probably better seen from the other side of the Tevere.
